Google –never a dull moment.
Google to make things a bit more lively has introduced lively. This 3D world is the newest attempt of Google to leave the search realm a bit and venture out into something else. Most people are thinking that Google needs some business in other areas making lively not connected not connected to Googles core business. I do not think that is the case at all. All these virtual worlds are designed to be placed on websites as added elements of interest to visitors. This will clearly add interest and traffic to sites which in turn will increase Googles revenues from its adwords/ adsense program. Google has an entire rather large team that is trying to keep the search giant in its present place. That place would be at the top of the high tech world.
Anyone who has downloaded " lively " may be reminded of " second life " the best known virtual world. Googles lively seems a bit simpler on the one hand but easier to maneuver on the other hand. It will certainly improve the traffic that some boring sites receive if a webmaster decides to put a trendy virtual life banner on the site. The program on its home page explains very clearly how to copy and paste the script of " lively " on to anyone's website. There seem to be so far some small glitches with the software that will probably be corrected by Google soon.
Second life seemed to get to serious even for itself as lawsuit after lawsuit made the second life not so attractive anymore. Maybe more trouble that it was worth. There was even money in the virtual world of second life, some European governments taxed earning made in the virtual world. All that is not to happen on lively as it is designed to be fun and help Googles other money making programs make money.
So far Google seems to be doing a good job at making money.
