Money matters? - What we think about the value of money

Our professor at Addis Ababa University asked us a question.

“What is a technology? “

I remember we all say something out. But the answer he gave us was entirely different from what we expected.

“A technology is something people create to make their life easier.”

“As Information Technology professionals you all are expected to make people’s lives easier.” he added.

“What does money can buy you? “ I asked my friend yesterday. A material, stuff, or a technology, to make your life easier. That is all. I can get that those stuffs are necessary for life. What I couldn’t get is why people often strive, even die to get happiness and satisfaction for their deepest needs from them while they only make their lives easier.

I see in some people that their ultimate purpose in life is to get money, much and much money. Today, about three trillion dollars in the world are corrupted.

The Bible says that the love of money can get our priorities out of line. No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. Matthew 6:24 You follow your priorities or follow money. And it also is the root of all evil. Money is not the root of all evil; the love of it is!

....the love of money is at the root of all kinds of evil. 1Timothy 6:10

No amount of money is worth it if it was gained deceptively or dishonestly. Those who do this lose far more than they could ever gain. Trust in your money and down you go! Proverbs 11:28 Don’t think money is the answer to every problem you have. If you depend on your money to bring security, there will never be enough. God will supply all of your needs. It doesn’t seem like that sometimes, because our definition of need is usually different from that of God. But it is true. We often want and strive to get what we really don’t need.

Stay away from the love of money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never forsake you.” That is why we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will not be afraid. Hebrews 13:5
