We live 30 mi se of Denver, Co and have a river birch tree in our back yard. It was planted 6 yrs ago and has grown fast. The past three years the leaves are very slow to develop to the top of the tree. As of now (the 3rd week in Jul) the leaves are really healthy looking and the small branches are growing but the leaves are only about half way up the tree. New leaves form very slowly. I have a 1 acre lot, it has 60 trees, I think mostly live oak...not sure..but oak trees.
