Choosing The Right Loft Bed For Your Child'S Room

A child’s room is often one of the smallest and most cramped living spaces in the home. When two or more kids are sharing the same living quarters, things can get really tight. Storage is at a premium, furnishings fight for room and the overall joy and life of the room gets overshadowed. Using practical and kid friendly furniture will use less space and make the tiniest room appear much larger. This does not have to involve interior designers or makeover experts. There are many makes of loft beds and cabin beds to look at, including Discovery Furniture, Thuka Beds, Shaker and many more.

There is a simple way for parents to transform children’s rooms and it involves the use of a loft bed or a cabin bed. These bedroom space saver beds will give your children the room they need to sleep and play. By using a loft bed, you are lifting the actual bed about five feet from the floor space and it is supported by a dresser at one end and a desk at the other. Kids love having the high bed to sleep in and parents love the new look of the room. Kids love loft beds because they feel as though they are flying when they climb the ladder and curl up among the stars. You can even add to this effect by transforming a plain, uninspiring ceiling with glow in the dark stickers or stars and planets. Your kids will love it and won’t have to be coaxed to go to bed in the evening. They are ready to go to bed and let their imagination whisk them away on a new space or travel adventure every night.

The space under the bed is quickly put to good use for either storage, study or play. You can even choose to have the dresser and the desk face inward and make further use of the underbed space. The bed itself will be fitted with a small ladder and guardrail to prevent accidents. The height is just the right size for younger children to safely use, yet make them feel as though they are on a grand adventure. This helps makes it possible to use this loft bed in very small quarters indeed.

Similarly, cabin beds help transform the appearance of small rooms by providing a bed that has its storage space underneath. These cabin or "captain’s beds" usually have 2 to 4 drawers nestled neatly and securely under the mattress. The mattress itself may sit a bit higher than the usual single bed depending on the size of the drawers beneath. These storage compartments make great use of this usually overlooked space located beneath the bed frame.

Tucked under the mattress area, the drawers are easily accessed when needed and provide ample storage for clothing or toys. These drawers have room for all of a child’s clothing to be neatly folded and stacked. You can choose to do without a dresser entirely if preferred, and use just a cabin bed for a child’s storage and bedspace. This is also a great piece of furniture for your kids because it makes the storage space seem secret and more personal. Many kids will use their new underbed storage space to keep their most valuable possessions safe.
