Most people spend about a third of their lives sleeping so buying a bed is one of the most important pieces of furniture you can select. Additionally, many people use their beds as a surface to do activities such as read and relax. The type of bed you choose will be determined by the number of people using the bed, the space available in the bedroom, the size of the anticipated occupants, your style preferences and your budget.
With the exception of twin and cot size beds, which can only accommodate one person, beds are sized for more than one person. However, the habits, size, and intended use of the purchasers will determine what size bed best suits them. The bedroom size will also be a consideration. To determine size, purchasers will want to consider whether they are restless sleepers, whether they plan to use the bed for family activities outside of sleeping, and whether their build requires a larger or smaller amount of space. Furthermore, the overall appearance of their bedroom and the spaciousness of the room once the bed is in it should be considered.
Beds are available in many materials and styles. Wrought iron, laminate, leather, and wood are common materials used to make beds. When buying a bed, consider the durability and care of each material. In addition, purchasers should consider whether they plan to move the bed after purchasing it. Certain materials such as laminate may chip or scratch, but are relatively easy to wipe clean. Wooden beds may scratch, but the natural wood grain often hides minor scratches and they can be refinished. Wrought iron is heavy, but can provide timeless beauty. Wrought iron should be cleaned periodically with mild detergent and warm water to avoid rust stains. Once you have decided on the material, you will need to decide on the style. Sit on the beds and lean against the headboard to determine if it is comfortable for reading or watching television in bed. Leather headboards have the advantage of feeling soft against your head, but they may crack or scratch. Bed designs vary so your personal preference as to a more modern, traditional, or eclectic look will guide you. Furthermore, you may want to consider the ease of making a particular bed. Bunkbeds, due to the upper bed's height, can be difficult to make well and platform beds can require excessive bending.
Beds are available in many price ranges. Since most people keep their beds for many years make sure that you purchase a bed that provides maximal comfort for the price. Generally, larger beds made with more expensive materials are the most costly. Inexpensive beds can be under $200.00, but beds can also cost many thousands. There is a bed for everyone's budget.
Lastly, consider your height and the ease with which you can get on and off a particular bed. If a bed feels too high ask if it is available in a lower height. Now that you know what factors to consider, you can feel confident as you shop for the perfect bed.
