Amisco is a manufacturer of steel beds that are made in Canada. These are retailed in the United States and have been around for over 25 years. Assembly of these beds is pretty straight forwards but if you haven't put one together in some time it's easy to forget the necessary steps to get this accomplished. This article will take a look the parts, hardware and steps to get one of these beds together which will hopefully provide a resource for those without instructions.
The first step is to lay all of your parts out. A typical Amisco bed will consist of a headboard, footboard and two side rails. Depending on your bed size at least 7 steel cross bars. 14 nylon clips, 5 masonite panels, 14 screws, 8 bolts and a center support leg with screw. An Allen wrench will be required to connect your bolts. A screwdriver will be needed for the screws.
The second step is securing the side rails to the headboard and footboard. Some Amisco headboards/footboards have only one set of pre-drilled holes with which to connect your side rails. Others will have three sets of holes which allow you to put it on the top most setting, the middle setting or the lowest setting. These different height settings that are pre-drilled into the legs are used depending on the size of the mattress or if you decide to use the bed with a mattress/box spring. If you have an Allen wrench this will be required to connect the bolts. Take the first rail and line it up to the headboard. Connect it with two of your bolts. Repeat this step with the other rail making sure that the shelves built into the rails face in towards each other. Bring the footboard over and go ahead using the remaining four bolts to connect it to the two side rails. You should now have the headboard, footboard and two side rails connected to each other.
The third step is to connect the steel crossbars to the rails. This is achieved by using the nylon clips and placing the end of one of the steel crossbars into its opening. The bottom of the nylon clip slips over the edge of the shelf built into the siderail and pushes into it. Repeat this for the other side. Now continue doing this between the rails with the nylon clips and steel crossbars making sure to space them enough so that a masonite panel can be installed over them with each panel touching the next. These panels will rest halfway across each bar and you bend the panel up in the middle and slide each edge beneat the nylon clip and over the crossbar. When the bed is fully populated with these use the steel screws and a screwdriver to secure them down through the top of the nylon clip. When this is completed you should have a bed that appears ready to go.
The final step is if your bed included a center support leg, you may go ahead and connect this to the bed at about the center of the bed. The support legs consist of two metal tubes and a screw. You can position the tubes in different configurations a small screw is used to secure them together. A longer screw is used that goes through a pre-drilled hole on the center crossbar and goes into the leg. Your bed is now ready to go.
In this article we discussed assembly instructions for Amisco brand beds. We talked about the required parts and hardware that you would need. The tools required. We went through the steps of connecting the headboard, footboard and rails. We examined the foundation and how it would be assembled using the steel crossbars, nylon clips and masonite panels. Finally we learned about the center support leg and how it connects to the crossbar.
This article is meant to be a textual guide in assembling an Amisco metal bed. Hopefully it has been of some help to those of you trying to put one of these beds together without the original instructions.
