Those high street shops still exist, most have web sites and most allow you to buy online. However, the market has now been opened. You may find traditional furniture stores listed alongside the manufacturer or supplier. Domestic customers are buying from contract suppliers at an ever increasing rate... you can save money in using such firms but, you should watch out.

A great number of firms exist that supply Village Halls, Schools, Hotels and the leisure industry. Such companies offer far better furniture at far lower prices. High Street shops always add at least 50 percent to trade prices and, they use cheaper materials such as upholstery and foam filling.

There is no doubt about it, you will almost always find a cheaper and better product from commercial suppliers.

You should bear in mind however, that the level of service is vastly different. Commercial suppliers usually deliver to offices or warehouses which can accept delivery 9-5 Monday to Friday. You should not expect to be able to tie your delivery in with your busy personal schedule. Also, you will not receive any help in installing your furniture. No drivers in smart uniforms to carry your beautiful new furniture into your house. If you are lucky, the driver may help you but, he is under no obligation (this is called tailgate delivery.) Any packaging (pallets, wrapping, cardboard) will probably be left behind, so you should be prepared to dispose of this yourself.
