How do I choose office Storage and Shelves?

There are a few criteria you need to consider when deciding upon which storage cabinets and shelves to choose for the office. This, of course, primarily depends upon the office requirement and the office space available. Also, there are many products and other items that need separate storage spaces from files and documents. In such cases, storage cabinets and closed or open shelves are required.

What are Storage Cabinets?

Storage cabinets are enclosed shelving units; they are covered from the sides and can have more than one door for opening. These storage units can be built into the office structure or they can be standalone units that are purchased separately. Storage can be built to also complement the overall look of the office. Storage cabinets are required in warehouses as well. Storage cabinets can be made from wood and other such materials for a more executive look or they can be in re-enforced steel to offer maximum security with a locking system in place. If you are just starting an office, then you even get budget cabinets starting from $100.

Shelves and Shelving Unit

Shelving units generally are open in the front and have open sides and back, too. Inbuilt shelves on walls are open only from the front and sides. Open shelves are a good idea to store goods that need to be frequently taken and put back. It saves a lot of time as opposed to opening a cupboard and then using and putting back the item. Shelves can be used for decorative purposes as well, if they are made in attractive materials like wood, which can be used to display awards and trophies. Low cost solutions can be found in shelving units for storage of materials in the back room or storage room, pantries, cleaning rooms, etc.

How to choose the correct Storage Unit and Shelving Unit?

The choice depends on the answers to the following points:

• You need to make a list of all the things that will need storage space.

• You will be able to decide the size of the storage cabinet or shelf depending upon the size of the material that needs to be stored. If it is heavy or light weight material will decide the material used to make the shelf or cabinet.

• If the material needs to be accessed often, then an open shelf will be required or closed cabinet will be required if you require safety or the material cannot be left outside as it will get spoilt.

• Where you are placing these storage cabinets or shelving units is very important. They have to look aesthetically right and must match the décor as well. Also, if the material is to be kept in a designated room, then shelves are a better option than closed cabinets like pantries or warehouses.
