Allison Guerrero is an interior designer who often uses tv lifts in her high end home designs.
The first step to building a custom TV lift is to build the main structure of the cabinet and drawers. Depending on the design of the TV lift and size of the cabinet, it will need to accommodate your specific TV model. It’s important to put together the unit first in order to make the necessary changes for the TV lift.
Next, a section of the top lift needs to fit straight up with the TV using a bracket to attach the top of the lifting column to the underside of the cabinet top. A hinged top is also an option, where a portion of the top hinges at the back and opens as the TV lifts out of the cabinet. For a hinged top, attach a 2x4 on the inside of the cabinet on either side of the hinge connection.
The third step is to mount the custom TV lift to the column inside of the cabinet with a sturdy support at the base. More high-end cabinets often are strong enough for this step and will allow the base to remain in place.
The fourth step is to complete the cabinet by adding front drawer faces with finishing nails. There’s also the option to attach them from behind the drawers to prevent any visible damage from the outside.
Lastly, you need to mount the TV onto your custom TV lift, which can be completed through using tools like the Pop Up TV Lift Kit. Place the power box inside the cabinet and attach the cable to the TV lift column and then plugged the power box into the wall. Add a section of 2x4 with a rounded corner to the top of the column so that the lid can hinge properly. If necessary, attach a flap of cardboard to the back side of the TV lift in order to prevent the hinged lid from getting caught while the TV comes into the cabinet.
