Have you seen the film Dr. Stangelove and 2001: A Space Odyssey? It was full of specimens of furniture that were supposedly futuristic. Of course they may not look that futuristic today but many modern furniture resemble them. Yet the designs they depict were particular to those times and the trends prevalent in the society.
In essence, they were just precursors to the modern day contemporary furniture.
