A wonderful addition to any garden is growing wine grapes. When it comes to making things for yourself, growing your own grapes is something that tops the list. Not only do you get to watch them grow under your love and care, but then after a couple months, you get to taste the fruits of your labor. It's a win-win situation if I ever saw one.

Growing wine grapes is something that has been taking place for thousands of years with each decade working to improving it more. So the

grapes that we have available now are ones that have been created over centuries to be just perfect for us to easily grow and maintain. With any endeavor you must have the right tools and accessories to have it go smoothly and growing wine grapes is no different.

When growing wine grapes you need to have patience, fertilized soil and a good set of pruning sheers. I know that it's probably not what you had in mind but those are the main things that are needed for growing wine grapes.

You need good fertilized soil because no matter how green of a thumb you have, if you have poor soil nothing will thrive. If possible it is best to have fertilized the soil before you plant a single thing but I know that we all don't live in a convenient world. So if you have decided to plant some grape vines but didn't plan far enough ahead to fertilize the soil, then I suggest you do some research before just picking any type of fertilizer.

For instance, if you want to use the kind that you buy in a store, make sure that you have checked the label to be sure that it can be put straight on the growing vine. If you are like me and desire to be as organic as possible and wish to use manure, cow or horse manure needs to sit before it can be placed directly on a plant as it is a hot type of manure. What that means is

that it heats and will burn the plant, therefore killing it if not allowed to decompose a little bit.

There is still hope, rest assured. If you have access to goat or sheep manure, you can take it right from the field and place it directly on the plant. This is possible because of the fact that sheep or goat manure is a cool manure, meaning it doesn't heat up and burn the plant.

When growing wine grapes you of course need something for the vines to grow up. There are many who use a trellis for the vines to grow up. My personal favorite is to see those large metal garden canopy frames that are covered in grape vines where their leaves are working to form a bit of beauty and shade. You can be creative though as some don't want just a simple trellis, they want a work of art once the vines have grown. The possibilities are endless as you can create anything you can imagine.

Once you have your wine grapes growing well don't forget that they will need to be pruned back towards the end of the year. Pruning is necessary

because that allows the roots to work at growing the best canes for the upcoming growing season. If you leave too many canes, the vine and roots

will be overworked resulting in a poor crop.

These are just a few of the important tips that I could come up with for those of you whose desire is growing wine grapes. Growing wine grapes is something that is not only fun to do for relaxation but the wine that those grapes help to produce will be great relaxation as well.
