Winter is on its way and many of us will be turning our thoughts to how to stay warm in the colder months. However, it's also the time of year when those of us with wood burning fireplaces and stoves can start looking forward to enjoying a homelier season, when our rooms stay toasty thanks to gorgeous, real fires that never fail to warm the heart as well as the body.
Log burning fires need fuel, however, and quite a lot of it. While a fantastic way of keeping warm, there's no escaping the fact that to survive through the winter, you'll need to stockpile a lot of wood - which can be difficult when space restrictions get in the way of doing so without too much fuss. Getting the wood isn't much of a problem. It's available in droves from garden centres, independent sellers and, of course, you can go and chop your own - but storing it isn't too simple. Unfortunately, it's also crucial - the winter months aren't known for being particularly dry and, if your wood gets wet or even just damp, it won't burn.
If you don't have a shed or somewhere suitable to store your wood, it's well worth considering a dedicated storage unit where you can keep your logs neatly and securely. Many can be simply placed in the garden, porch or around the side of the house and are an excellent way for storing wood so it's easily accessible - and won't get wet. Decent log stores will be treated to deter the rain and help keep your wood even drier, and they're fantastic ways of ensuring your garden or wherever you're storing your wood presently will remain neat and tidy. They will also avoid hiding the wood from the sun and wind whilst protecting it from rain.
Log stores also make for fairly charming additions to the aesthetic look of your garden and make the experience of using your wood burning fire or stove all the more authentic and cosy.
So while many people are fearing the cold, you can relax in the knowledge that you'll be able to stay warm for months with the help of a log store, which is an ideal solution for keeping your wood dry and neatly packed away from making a mess of the rest of the garden. Now all you have to do is start up your store - or the chilly nights could be upon you before you know it!
