The use of bark as a soil amendment is best used when plants are mature and don't require allot of water retention in the soil. There are two basic types of bark mulch that are most commonly used in mulch, shredded and chunk.

Using a solar mulch to cover the planting soil will increase the soils temperature up to 8-10 degrees to about a depth of 3-inches. These types of mulches also help suppress weed growth.

Many people have a misunderstanding about some of the things you can put into your organic gardening compost. Coffee grounds, teabags or even loose tea, and eggshells are quite acceptable to put into your organic compost.
