Spring Checks in Your Home

Posted: Feb 23, 2011 |Comments: 0 |

Spring is springing and it's time to have a spring clean and blow the cobwebs away. But what do you need to do to your home to ensure that it is fixed from the battering the winter weather gave it?

Check the roof. While the weather is fairer it's a good time to check for any missing tiles and any exposed timbers that might pose a problem should it rain, or may be causing water to get in. A lot of fires are caused by water and wires, so ensure your home is safe by fixing any damage.

Go in the loft. This will give you a second chance to see how the roof is. Check the timber for watermarks and see if you can see any daylight shining through, as this is a sure sign that there is a tile missing or a rip in the roof seal.

Check the gutters. Winter brings the winds, and they blow leaves and debris into the gutters, which causes them to be backlogged. The point of the gutter is to keep falling water away from the walls, so need to be at full capacity to make sure that they work properly. Check they aren't sagging either as this is a sign of them not being secure.

If you notice anything that needs fixing and you aren't entirely sure of your ability then call a professional, as any errors will be expensive to rectify if you have made a small problem worse!
