Boston ferns are plants that you are likely to see inside and out probably more than most other plants. With its lengthy fronds and frilly leaves, it is a great plant for hanging on porches, decks and patios and anywhere you want to add a touch of living decor.

How to care for your fern when it is grown inside:

There are many people who don't like growing the Boston fern inside their homes because it sometimes does not respond well. One of the most problems is the plant will shed its leaves and begin to look sickly. Because the plant is not placed in the right spot

The Boston fern will do well in lit areas but not in direct sunlight. A windowsill facing the East or West is a good spot. This plant enjoys misting and regular watering. The ideal temperature is between 65 to 75 degrees. During nightfall the range should be between 55 to 65 degrees.

The plant loves high humidity and one-way to provide this is to fill a dish with small stones and water. Place it close to the fern so the water evaporation supplies the humidity it needs. You can also use a humidifier placed close to the plant. The soil should never be allowed to become too dry.

Feeding Boston Ferns:

A nitrogen rich plant food should be fed to the Boston fern. Use the type that is mixed with water. Apply only during the spring, summer and fall. If you want your Boston fern to become larger, transplant it into a larger pot. The size of the pot you use will decide how large the plant grows. While transplanting the fern you may divided the plant and start new ferns.
