Furniture chests web site: Furniture Chests of Drawers
Lingerie chests are tall and narrow chests that stand around five feet high. They are not as wide as regular chests of drawers. They typically have five to seven drawers in a single column. Lingerie chests usually have an elegant look to them, with curved lines and a delicate finish. Jewelry chests are narrower and a bit shorter than lingerie chests. This makes sense; after all, jewelry is small and doesn't take as much space. Jewelry chests likewise tend to be made of beautiful wood and have pleasing curves.
Chances are, however, that most women don’t have so much jewelry that they can fill up six drawers’ worth of space. And most likely don’t have so much lingerie that they couldn’t spare one drawer for jewelry. You can, of course, use your chest of drawers for whatever you want. Just because it is called “jewelry” or “lingerie” doesn’t mean you must only put such items in it. Many women will use a larger “jewelry” chest to store lingerie and other delicates, in addition to their jewelry. Other women will keep their jewelry in the top drawer of their “lingerie” chest. In fact, many chests come with a special tray or drawer specifically designed for jewelry, sometimes a “secret,” hidden jewelry tray.
One thing to beware of with toy chests is the lid support. There can be a real danger to your child with toy chests, especially with a heavy lid. I recently read that a furniture company recently recalled some 400 toy chests they had made due to a question of safety. Their oak toy chests have a lid support that can hold the lid up and is adjustable. Apparently, it's a kind of brace that could be more complicated than a child can understand. Therefore, there's a possibility the heavy lid could fall on the child's head or neck. Interestingly, it was an undercover investigator conducting "retail surveillance" for consumer product safety who discovered the risk. That's a good thing, because it means a child didn't have to get hurt from it in order for the recall to occur.
