Why teak is a preferred material for use in Garden Furniture

Teak has long been considered to be one of the most durable of all natural raw materials. The close grain of the wood, the fact that it is extremely dense and that it is full of oil makes it ideal for use in numerous outdoor applications. From house building and railway sleepers to ocean going boat hulls and decks, teak has more than often been the wood of choice. This is primarily due to its fantastic reputation as a long lasting product that can withstand extreme weather conditions and temperature variations.

As a result of these attributes, over the last century teak has also become an increasingly popular choice of material for use in the construction of quality garden furniture. However, teak is not only chosen due to the durability of the wood but also because it is very tactile and aesthetically pleasing.

Teak garden furniture has evolved over the decades and now teak garden chair and table combinations not only make hard wearing and attractive patio furniture sets, but also classic design pieces. Products range from traditional solid teak steamer chairs to more contemporary stainless steel and teak garden tables to provide the consumer with a variety of styles to suit all different types of homes and gardens.

Teak is also a popular choice for use in garden furniture because it can be left outside throughout the year without requiring any treatment at all. If it is left outside untreated all year it will eventually transform from the original brown colour into an elegant shade of silvery grey. It is important to note that whether one chooses to treat the wood or not or if it is taken indoors or not it will not significantly alter the longevity of the wood.
