Green Gifts for Christmas

Christmas is a time of exuberance. We all eat far too much and spend too much money. But our indulgences have an effect on the environment too. At Christmas we use far more energy and produce a lot more waste than any time of year.

While we may be able to reduce our waistlines and overdrafts come the New Year, it may not be possible to undo the damage we do to the environment. But thinking of the environment and trying to live green doesn’t mean that we can’t spoil ourselves at Christmas

And buying green products doesn’t mean they can’t be exciting either, it’s all about being imaginative and thinking of alternatives. Electrical gadgets are a good example there are a huge selection of solar powered gadgets available that make fantastic gifts. But even if somebody has their heart set on the latest laptop or MP3 player, you can incorporate green gifts too.

Solar powered laptop chargers and other solar power battery rechargers are a great way of not just living green but also solar powered devices are portable so lap tops, mobile phones and music players can be charged on the move. Solar powered chargers also save money on batteries and will help cut down on your electricity bills.

Eco clothing and organic clothes are another great way of incorporating a green lifestyle into your Christmas shopping. Some really nice organic clothing is around at the moment – bamboo clothes in particular are really stylish and make a great gift.

And when it comes to gift-wrapping your Christmas presents remember the environment then as well. Christmas wrapping all ends up discarded with much of it ending up on landfill sites. Recycled gift-wrapping and reusable wrapping paper are a good way of helping to cut down on waste and help the environment at Christmas time.

So when you are thinking about Christmas shopping and what gifts to buy, remember it is not hard to think green.
