Planning Ahead Makes Giving a Pleasure

Posted: Jul 21, 2011 |Comments: 0 |

Many people go shopping for Christmas gifts because they have a long list of people for which they want to purchase a present. The long list may have names on it of relatives for whom people feel obligated to exchange nice, gift-wrapped items. Then, names of people for whom people just love to give something. Sometimes giving comes with some stress and other times it is pure pleasure. Still, those who plan ahead can obtain items for everyone on their list that are personal, appropriate, and economical without experiencing the stress of last minute shopping and wrapping.

One thing that helps when planning to give is that it gets you into the spirit of Christmas. A popular wish that people have is that the spirit of Christmas would last all year. When we think of the true spirit of Christmas, we think of love, peace, joy and hope. We may think about the fun times with family and friends, the special music and decorations, but the true meaning that we want to prolong is the feeling of warmth and love. People can have that spirit with them throughout the year when they continually give to others, and one way to truly help the joy of Christmas last is to organize and work on the Christmas list starting in January.

When the list is a long one, sometimes those who are buying the presents find it difficult to make each one meaningful and appropriate for the person receiving it. Still, starting early can help the one giving to take the buying in small, easy to handle sections. The names can be addressed individually. Different seasons come with different sales and these sales can help the budget. For example, right after Christmas all the holiday items go on sale at amazingly low prices. Aunt Mary may love candles and Grandpa Joe may need some decorations to make his apartment look more festive, and these items might be purchased in January at 60% off their original price.

When planning ahead, people can gather creative ideas for gifts. Especially for younger family members and friends or others for whom it is difficult to shop, popular gift cards can be the very best gift to give. The cards can come with a stuffed animal for girls and inside a T-shirt for boys. The cards should be for stores, restaurants and online markets interesting to the individuals receiving the cards, or if preferences are unknown the cards should be for popular stores that most people like.

When you make a habit of giving all year and planning ahead for their list of presents to purchase for the holidays, shopping for Christmas gifts can actually be a true pleasure. As the gifts are purchased, people can store them away. They may even want to wrap and label the items ahead of time. A top shelf in a closet can be cleared and reserved for the presents. This low-stress approach to gift giving can make all the difference at Christmas time. No need to join with those last-minute shoppers unless the fun of the season is calling.
