I am a young Christian woman that is determined to get others to eat right and to exercise. We need to finally do what God has commanded and start taking stewardship over our bodies.
Well that time of year is here again when so many of us make New Year’s Resolutions. I want to challenge you to make exercise and eating better more than just a new years resolution, but to make it a lifestyle change. Statistics show that the vast majority of us fail completely within the first 3 months of the year.
Don’t be part of the statistics! Take the time to do whatever it takes to make sure that you are successful in what you wish to achieve. The only to ensure success is to have a systematic plan of whatever you wish to accomplish. Exercise and eating better is one of the most common New Year’s Resolution that people make.
Here are some steps to increasing your chances of success beyond the 3 months so that you can be successful. I want you to not only to succeed in your goal, but to thrive. When you make your resolution, make sure that you take the time to make sure that it is really what you want and not what someone else wants. While it is understood that those that truly love us want the best for us, it is also true that you can lead the horse to water, but you can't make it drink. Regardless of how much others want something for you, it doesn't matter until you want it for your self. If you try it and then fail then you may be inclined to hold it against the other person.
Step #1- Get a journal and put it in writing. Habakkuk 2:2 tells us to write it down.
Step #2- Write down your goals. Think of both your short and long term goals. Remember that often times you have to take steps before you reach your goal.
Step #3- Write down your excuses. When you see them on paper, you will often times see how ridiculous they are.
Step #4-Write down what you can do right now to conquer your excuses. Ephesians 4:7 tells us to always remember that God will give you the measure of grace to get through whatever it is that you need to conquer.
Step #5-Write down how you will reward yourself. We all want to be rewarded for our efforts, especially in the beginning.
Step#6-Keep journaling your progress as well as your downfalls so that you will be able to track your progress and have an understanding of where you’re having success and where you need to make some changes.
Remember that you are making a change will benefit you for the rest of your life. Changes are long lasting and life changing, so take time to make the choice. Do not rush into anything that is going to be nothing more than a experiment. We know that we must have faith, but that we must also work for it according to James 2:26.
