Self-improvement makes up a major part of Warriorism. Whether you consider yourself a Warrior or not, you probably would like to improve yourself. Mostly everyone wants to improve themselves. We may want to improve in different ways, but we all would like to better ourselves in certain ways. In this article, I will suggest some techniques you can use to improve yourself.
Ask Others How You Can Improve - If you want to improve yourself, you have to know what specifically about yourself to work on. You can get suggestions on what to focus by asking others. Even if you already have a general idea of what you want to improve, you can ask someone to point out specific areas in need. For example, if you want to improve your ability at a certain sport, you could ask a sports-coach what specific skills you need to improve in that sport to get better at it. People will not want to give you advice if you do not take criticism constructively and politely, so make sure you take it as politely as possible. Do not get angry or defensive, or else they will stop giving you honest advice.
Set Goals - Improving yourself generally takes constant effort. Setting goals will put your effort into context, so that you will not aimlessly waste time. Additionally, if you have something to reach, it will motivate you to try harder to reach your goals. You may find goal-setting most effective if you write your goals down; that way you won't forget them, and you will feel more like you have made a promise to yourself. When setting goals, keep in mind that you want to make your goals both ambitious and realistic. You do not want to make goals so easy that they lose their value, but you also do not want to set yourself up for failure by making unrealistic goals. If you make unrealistic goals, you will end up quitting.
Get Group Support - When trying to improve yourself, reach a goal, or otherwise kick a bad habit, you can benefit greatly from group support. You can try to find an official support group. You can also simply get support from friends, family, and other associates. You can probably relate better to people with similar problems and goals to you, but you can actually also relate to someone who has different goals. For example, if one person wants to lose weight and another wants to do better at school, they can still relate to each other about staying on task, and they can provide each other with moral support.
Track Your Progress - Tracking your progress will help you make sure you do not fall behind on your work to improve yourself. Additionally, the very act of having to track your progress will make you stay focused. If you do not track your work to improve yourself, you can more easily forget it altogether. But having to track it regularly will act as a constant reminder to keep working to improve yourself in whatever ways you have chosen.
I hope those techniques prove helpful for you. In the end, though, it comes down to making a choice. You either choose to do the work required to improve yourself, or you get lazy and give up. Make the choice, and live life like a Warrior!
Whatever you do, good luck and have fun!
