Positive thinking is one of the self-improvement techniques that, on successful implementation, will help a person fulfill his ambitions, achieve the goals set for achieving, and above all, help the person lead a happy and peaceful life.

What is positive thinking? What difference does positive thinking make in one's life? How one can achieve success, happiness and peace of mind with the assistance of positive thinking?

Well, positive thinking is nothing but thinking positive. It is all about the mental attitude of the person at any given point of time, the attitude that drives the subconscious mind of a person to expect only favorable results at all times, and in all circumstances. A person interested in mastering the trait of positive thinking has to develop a positive attitude in doing his activities, and expect to receive only successful outcomes from his activities. He however, has to ensure that all such things that are required to achieve success are carried out.

Merely expecting positive outcomes from the actions will not suffice; it should be followed by actions, which, of course, will be driven by the positive attitude. By constantly thinking in a positive manner about the success and chanting words such as "I can do", "it can be done" etc. the subconscious mind is trained to think in a positive manner and this subconscious mind will help in taking all positive steps to ensure that success and happiness are guaranteed in your endeavors. Positive thinking or the mental attitude will help a person in determining what he/she wants to achieve in life, extend assistance in goal setting process, and provide all the will power and strength required to strive for achieving that goal.

The mental attitude of expecting only positive outcomes, which is a sign of success, in all situations, helps a person present himself to the other persons at large as a confident, cheerful person. The person with positive thinking will feel energetic, happy, and exhilarated. The people will sense the aura, which is believed to represent the soul vibrations and mirror the prevailing moods as well as thoughts, of a person with positive thinking and they will be positively affected by the person with the positive mental attitude.

The eyes of a person with positive thinking will be bright, filled with energy and displaying happiness as he sees through his mind's eye the constructive images and pleasant images of what he aspires to be, thanks to the positive mental attitude. This positive attitude, brightness in the eyes, and energetic feeling emanating from one's body attracts the other persons with similar attitudes, following the Laws of Attraction such as "Like attracts like" or "Birds of a feather flock together".

In order to develop the habit of positive thinking, it is essential that one develop a positive attitude towards the life. The first and foremost thing that every person, aspiring to cultivate and nurture the habit of positive thinking, needs to do is to put an end to negative thoughts, disbelief and fear from the mind. Negative thoughts not only frustrate a person, but also discourage him from doing actions confidently, and finally, lead to a vicious circle of failures, negative feelings, and discouragement.

It is a known fact that thoughts have a predominant role in determining what we are and what we aspire to become. To cultivate the habit of positive thinking, which is an ongoing process and needs to be practiced over a longer period, one needs to have positive thoughts.

As a step in the direction of positive thinking, one person has to cultivate the habit of visualizing the beneficial aspects and favorable situations at any given point of time. The person has to constantly energize his/her inner thoughts and subconscious mind with positive words and positive feelings. While engaging in dialogues with other people as well, it is advisable that positive thoughts and words are uttered. In addition to words, it also helps to smile occasionally while speaking, which will also help in developing the positive attitude.

While doing all things in positive manner it is also essential that feelings of laziness, procrastination or such other negative ideas should not be encouraged and shunned at the earliest possible time. Negative ideas and negative thoughts are more detrimental and stumbling blocks in the path to develop the trait of positive thinking, and it is imperative that extra efforts are made to shun out negative attitudes and negative feelings.

One more important aspect that needs to be borne in mind is that patience needs to be exercised while developing the trait of positive thinking, with a firm belief to make a positive impact in life.

Self Perception is making me miserable.. help!
By: daafal | 19-08-2008
I have an interesting perception on the world that I am just now realising is disrupting my overall happiness and functionality. As I get older and responsibilities grow it becomes more evident. It's something i've just learnt about myself. Anyway, I procrastinate and I love helping people, i am always anxious and can't stop planning the next thing to do. I also have this perception that I need to be there for everyone and that everything is urgent... time is waisting. I don't feel happy, i always feel rushed, but I can't seem to slow down. If i say no to people i feel i am letting them down. What should i do because lately my problem has exacerbated to the point multiple people are really worried about me. It cost me my love, and now my family are getting fed up because they are soo worried about how it disrupts me. I hope that is clear... ask if you need more info.

Looking for websites for goal setting combined with social networking/encouragement
By: Ecrivaine32 | 13-11-2006
Are there any good websites you'd recommend that let you list your goals and then encourage one another through social networking on the same site?  Also, I was thinking it would be handy to find not just a site where you can post and set your goals and get supported by others whom you also encourage -- but a site where you can record any significant progress toward each goal and track your progress, and maybe even where others can see it, if you choose to let them
