You can have anything at all you want for your goals. The most important thing is that your goal excites you. It doesn’t have to be a huge goal – it’s how you feel about your goal that counts the most. When you think about it you should feel pleasure just imagining the goal complete.
If you do not feel excited thinking about your goal, it is best you aim for a goal that is a bit bigger. Not so big that it feels impossible to reach, but enough of a stretch that you feel happy and enthused thinking about it.
Perhaps your goal is to reach a certain position at work. If you are the window cleaner it is going to be an enormous jump for you to aim to be general manager. If you do think this is possible and it excites you then keep this goal.
If you think it very unrealistic to proceed from window cleaner to general manager - but it still excites you then break it down into a series of smaller, more manageable goals. If you move your way up the ranks passing through 12 different job descriptions you can reach your big goal.
When you break a huge goal down then all the smaller steps this makes it feel more approachable and doable.
Think of all the people who you have to enlist the help of in order for your goal to happen? Write a list of those people down. Think of the possible scenarios and routes that could get you to your goal and begin on one path. Choose the path that appeals to you the most.
As time passes another path or route may make itself known to you. Have the flexibility to follow a different course if it makes sense to you at the time. The most important thing is that you take action and begin your goals. You can adjust your plan later; it doesn’t have to be set in stone.
As long as you keep taking steps forward you will make it. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know how you will get there. Situations and opportunities will crop up at the time and suggest a course of action for you to take. It would be dull to know exactly how you are going to achieve every goal every time.
Keep your focus on one task at a time. Then look to the next one. Being consistent and determined will see you completing your goal.
