There are the two-piece balls, three-piece balls, and high performance options. Regardless of your level, there is a perfect ball waiting to be found by you. The differences between balls are simple, but make a great difference. The construction, number of dimples, and distance it flies are the main factors that you need to consider.
Two-piece balls are essential for increasing the distance you can hit the ball. However, if you have a slower swing and want better accuracy, three-piece balls are better for you. Only the very best golfers should consider high performance golf balls though.
General regulations that have been establish make it clear that golf balls cannot have a diameter of less than 1.680 inches and the maximum velocity must be less than 250 feet per second. The maximum weight is 1.620 ounces.
The two main categories that golf balls fall into are recreational and advanced. Recreational ball are intended for beginners as well those who are just playing for fun. These balls are designed with two layers, and optimize a low swing. They feature side spin reduction and low compression. Also, they are more affordable.
The advanced balls have multiple layers, with a soft outer cover and a firm inner core. Golfers with great swing speed can benefit from choices in this category. Make sure that your swing speed matches the compression of the ball, or you won't optimize the ball's potential.
You also have the choice of using used or recycled golf balls for lower costs. These balls are graded to tell you about their condition. Grade-A balls still look new, but have been gently used. These are fine for any handicapped level golfer. Beginner can use Grade-B balls, which have been worn out slightly more but are still acceptable for play. Grade-C balls are fine for long shot practice. Used balls for perfect for beginners who anticipate losing some balls. This will help keep the initial cost down while you learn the fundamentals of the game.
You can even pick you favorite color golf balls. Coming in white, green, pink, yellow, and blue, there is sure to be a color that you'll love. The colors also help distinguish your ball from other players' balls.
The golf ball continues to evolve. Starting as a wooden ball, it has gone through extensive research and design. Now manufactures are able to make balls that have controlled speed and accuracy.
Once you become more skilled at golf, you'll want to start investing in better balls. It becomes expensive, but you'll enjoy the benefits better balls provide.
