If you love golf and have always wanted to work in the golfing industry, then your dreams may soon become a reality. Many may tell you that getting a job in the sports industry is a bit of a pipe dream, but that situation is quickly changing.
The explosion in popularity of the game of golf, led mostly by the popularity of Tiger Woods and the professional game, has led to a much greater number of available golf jobs. These days, getting into the golfing industry as a profession will only require you to do a little bit of research and put in the effort to make the necessary contacts.
Golf jobs can be separated into a couple of different categories. If you love to play the game, then you know all about the opportunities in teaching. Golf itself has a wide appeal because it is a recreational sport that can be played by all ages. As a true-life sport, folks can start playing the game at the age of four and continue throughout life, well into their eighties. In addition, golf offers both social and corporate opportunities.
As long as business people continue to entertain their clients on the links, golf jobs will continue to boom throughout the country.
In addition to the golf jobs that are associated with the recreational aspect of golf, the game offers opportunities to participate in the professional circuit. Recreational golf jobs would include those like golf pro, greens keeper, and any job loosely associated with the day-to-day operations of the course and golf club. These may appeal to those who like to be around the game on an everyday basis, but some people are looking for a little bit more out of their career. A job in professional golf would certainly offer that. It offers not only the ability to make a large amount of money, but also the ability to have upward mobility within the golfing industry.
One specific job in the industry that many people do not think about is the job of handing the personal business of the professional golfers. Whether as a manager or personal agent for the golfer, this job opportunity gives people who love the game a chance to be close to the game and work with the people that make it special. In this same realm, there is a growing interest in the field of public and media relations in dealing with golf.
While the past might not have offered the media exposure that could make this a great career, today's golfers continually have to deal with the stresses of handling the press corps and a number of different interviews. As a golf public relations specialist, you can work either with the golfers or with the PGA of America in dealing with those things.
The question you might be asking is how you get into the golf industry. It is easier than you think. While the barrier to entry in the sports world is certainly high compared to other industries, golf offers a level of availability. It is essential to pick a specialty within the golf world and get the necessary training that would enable you to excel in one of those golf jobs.
There are special colleges and programs available for those who know that golf is their calling. Get the right knowledge and get to know people that have the right connections. With all of the excitement surrounding the industry today, opportunities have never been greater. Landing a great job within the industry is easy if you have the right skills.
