Getting Fitted to Play your Best Golf

Author: Kennard McGill Author Ranking Blue | Posted: 31-08-2007 | Comments: 0 | Views: 8 | Rating:  (57) Article Popularity - Blue (?) Got a Question? Ask.

Taking that leap from a high handicap golfer to a low handicap golfer can come down to having the right clubs in your hands.

Golfers come in all sizes and shapes. Yet there are a lot of golfers who attempt to play the game of golf with clubs that do not match their body type or swing style.

When it comes to playing your best game hitting a bucket of balls at the golf-range or practicing your chip shot for hours will not help if the clubs you are using are not the right length or type.

Having properly fitted clubs can dramatically increase your level of play. When your body type and club length are matched you will find hitting the ball with your natural swing is a lot easier. The golf swing will often separate a low handicap golfer from a high handicap golfer.

The clubs you buy in a pro shop are usually one size fits all and are generally geared toward golfers of average build and weight who can hit a 6 iron about 160 yards. So before you invest in buying golf clubs spend a little time in a pro shop and ask a professional what type of clubs may be right for your size and height.

Custom fitting involves some key factors that can be learned from an assessment of your game by either someone in a golf pro shop or a golf teaching professional. The most common elements taken into account include: gender, height, and distance from your wrist to the floor, age, and handicap or skill level, in addition to some other factors.

Gender determines the correct fitting scale for standard length clubs. Then your height and the distance in inches from your wrist to the floor are used together to determine the length of a set of golf club that is appropriate for you. On average about 80% of golfers is standard length.

All of these dimensions ultimately can determine the type club shaft and length appropriate for you.

Club fitting does not take a long time to do. You can get fitted for golf clubs in some cases in 15-20 minutes. Yet depending on the pro shop and the skill level of your game you can sometimes spend a half hour to a day getting fitted for clubs.

Usually there is no cost associated with club fitting at a pro shop. Pro shops are going to fit you especially if you intend to buy clubs from them. Yet you may still run into some golf shops that will charge a fee.

Once you know the type of clubs you should have you also can buy your golf clubs online.
You can find different shaft type and dimensions for golf clubs on most online golf retail shops.

Understanding the types of clubs you need and the proper lengths will go a long way in improving your game.
