The kind of spin that is generated by the golfer is best known by the way the ball behaves after hitting the ground. The ball can either, ‘spin and stop’, ‘spin and roll back’ or just ‘spin and roll on.’ Such movement is dependent on the way the ball was hit, the make of the ball and the club used to hit the ball. Some balls may spin more than the others, in air as well as after impact with the ground. The spin rate of a golf ball also determines the extent to which the ball stays hit in the air.
Any way that you hit the ball, there is certain degree of spin that always comes into play. If you hit the ball lower towards the ground, more backspin is generated. On the other hand if you hit the ball higher, a kind of topspin is generated that thrusts the ball further. Thus, the spin rate of the golf ball varies depending on which part of the ball gets hit and with what impact.
If there is low spin rate on the ball, it will drop much quickly on the ground and won’t get a very high elevation. However, if the spin rate is on the higher side, the ball will almost bear the appearance of a balloon and travel higher towards the sky. Getting the perfect spin rate is a challenging task for every golfer, beginners and experts alike. Following are some tips that may come to your rescue while trying to generate that perfect spin on your golf ball:
- You must stand with your feet much closer to each other as compared to while taking a normal shot.
- You must position your body in such a way that the golf ball is nearer to your back foot.
- Make use of a flop wedge (60 degrees)
- If you don’t have a flop wedge, a sand wedge can also be used.
- Take your swing from an upright surface.
- You must make sure that you hit the golf ball right underneath it, before digging out the divot.
- Feel free and play your normal shot.
The spin rate of the golf ball also depends on how it has been made. Many pros suggest that one should employ three layered (three-piece) golf balls rather than two layered (two-piece) ones to obtain maximum spin and thus better control over the shot.
The way the golf ball is constructed is dominantly responsible for the rate of spin on it. The two-piece balls though more popular with common golfers don’t offer as much rate of spin as is generated with the three-piece balls. This holds true for both the wounded and solid core three-piece balls.
If you are looking to derive maximum length from your hit, you must keep in mind to generate as less spin as you can. There is always a moderate way of going about your hits so that you get the distance as well as the control required to make the ball halt at will. The best form of golf ball spin rate is one that enables you to hit the ball as far as you want and also make it stop just at the right time. It is difficult but not impossible. After all, practice makes a man perfect!
