Golf Clubs are usually multi million £ businesses that operate via a shoe string budget. Members clubs particularly are designed to be almost non profit making businesses. They add up all there costs each year, divide it by the number of members they have and that is how much they charge for subs. This philosophy is beginning to change.
Over the past few years we have seen a change in the way golf clubs are being run. They are starting to realise that they are businesses and therefore need to be run like businesses. This means that they need a good infrastructure in place to be able to do this.
This does not mean just I.T. this means personel, paper based system and procedures. However we are seeing more and more need for I.T systems within clubs. A good system not only makes it easy to manage the members, finances and information that a club has but it also provides extra facilities like email, mail merge, web site connections. We live in a world of easy communication and information. People now expect this during there working environment and now they expect it from there social life as well.
I am not sure that most clubs are truly ready for internet tee bookings and on-line competition entry but some are and they are embrasing this technology. The majority of clubs are looking for an easy to use tool that allows them to access members records from different rooms at the club. Have their bar cards linked to there members records and enter into competitons from the same list of members.
Some of the proprietary based clubs want more forward booking information and finacial control and this should be available to them. A good I.T system works in the background providing the club with the tools it needs to improove the service to its members and visitors alike.
The cost of a system can be high but in reaction to the size of the business it is helping to manage it is worth every penny!
