How To Improve Your Golf Swing Guaranteed!

How important is your backswing when trying to improve your golf swing? Very important. The problem with many players is they assume by having as big a back lift as they can muster, then they're going to hit the ball a lot further.

This just isn't the case. To hit the ball further requires connecting with it in what is known as the sweet spot. You'll know when you hit it. It's one of the best sounds a golfer will hear and from the moment the club connects with the ball, you'll immediately know that it's going to travel a good distance.

Trying to wind up with as big a backswing as you possibly can will lead to two things:

- spraying the ball left or right and mis-timing it and

- possible injury to yourself

Golf Mechanics

If you want to improve your golf swing then it's a simple case of applying the right mechanics. Your flexibility will have a lot to do with how far you can wind up your swing. Some players just don't have the flexibility to wind up as far back as others.

You can test your flexibility by simply holding your arms out from your side and then bending your elbows to 90 degrees. With your arms raised in this position, try and move your forearms in a backward motion. If they don't move very far then this is your cue that you need to shorten your back lift.

If you can bend your forearms back several inches then your flexibility is quite good and you can think a little about lengthening your backswing.

A Shorter Swing

Trying to teach a golfer to shorten their swing will usually be met with some protest. That's understandable because the aim from the tee shot is to belt the ball as far as you can.

Want to know a secret. You don't need to wind up like a windmill to get good distance. As we mentioned earlier, finding that sweet spot when club and ball are in the same zone will generate all the distance you need.

Here's a tip to improve your golf swing. Shorten it and slow it down. You can gain better control of your swing by simply practicing this technique:

- If you're a right hander, notice your upper left arm when you begin the backswing motion.

- Once it reaches your chest and feels like it's hard up against it with no more room to move stop your back lift.

- Once this point is reached it's a sure signal you cannot swing back any further in the natural motion. If you attempt to do so then you'll only achieve to put your arms out of alignment with what feels natural and the end result will be a mis-timed shot.

- For left handers, simply make sure it's your upper right arm which rests on your chest during the backswing.

Practice this technique in slow motion for a while before hitting a ball and then use it on the practice fairway. You'll soon improve your golf swing and have a much more controlled swing as a result of it.
