Every game has a set of rules that you need to follow, and golf is of course no exception to that. You need to read through this article if you are a beginner at the sport, or maybe if you have been out of touch with it for quite a while. Golf is one game where manners and etiquette play a very important part, and you and your playing partners will find it much easier to enjoy a day of golf if you take care of that along with the laws of the game of course.
Here area few pointers on the above mentioned:
1. To maintain record of scores you need to note down the number of shots it took to hole the golf ball. This is best done as soon as you complete every hole, so as not to get confused.
2. You need to select your golf clubs before hand, and no one is allowed to hold more than 14 clubs during the game. It is a violation if you are found carrying extras.
3. When you tee off, make sure you tee the ball between the provided mark spots..
4. Many of the golf clubs around have a dress code, so you may want to check on that before hand to save some embarrassment.
5. Remember you are not allowed to touch the golf ball with your hands during play, nto unless you are on the green and have placed a mark on it. If your ball is stuck in a trap and you need to take it out there are some exceptions though.
Golf has always been associated with gentlemen of fine manners and behavior so you may want to keep some of the following points in mind so as not to rub anyone the wrong way:
6. If you are on the green, then the guy farthest from the whole is he who strikes first.
7. Try and not waste other people’s time. Be ready to play your shot when your turn comes. There is nothing more frustrating to someone behind you than to wait while you do your thinking when your turn comes.
8. The person who scores lowest on a hole is given the opportunity to play first on the following hole, and is called the player with honors.]
As mentioned earlier, the game of golf is one where manners are almost as important as the laws of the game. Any misconduct on the field will normally mean you lose your membership. Of course there are exceptions where you may have done something unintentionally. But try and be aware of all the unsaid and unspoken rules, as that is what tells people that you have arrived on the golf scene.
