Santa Ponsa Golf Course Mallorca

Santa Ponsa is a very fashionable Mallorca golfing resort with several rich and famous personalities as well as royalty visiting and playing on this golf resort. It is situated around twenty minutes drive from the international airport on Santa Ponsa Urbanization, and it takes 15 minutes to reach Palma de Mallorca. It is encircled by over 6 kilometers of coastline and includes one 9 hole and two 18-hole golf courses, Golf Santa Ponsa I, II and III.  Out of its three courses one is open to the public.

Balearic Open has been hosted at the Santa Ponsa Golf Course six times between 1988 and 1998 when it was included in the European PGA Tour. Golf Santa Ponsa I was designed and opened for play in 1977 January. Its 10th hole is amongst the longest in Europe and it has been designed by Folco Nardi in collaboration with Pepe Gancedo. The course extends over a region of almost 73 hectares. The course is wide and long, with numerous aboriginal trees, foliage, water bodies as well as bunkers. There is no doubt that Santa Ponsa I is one of most played courses in Mallorca with numerous national and international tournaments taking place here often, including the Professional Spanish Championship.

Santa Ponsa II is a 6,053 meter long course and plays to a par of 72. You will find a number of holes designed amongst the pine forest or the big lakes, which offers the golfers plenty of opportunity to challenge their golfing skill. The 18th hole is designed on an island which is shaped like the island of Mallorca, which makes it particularly appealing. This course also provides an occasion to take golf lessons on the 350 m long training course, which has tees both ways for over 100 m, a putting green as well as a golf school.

Santa Ponsa III on the other hand is a 9-hole course which was established in 1999 January. It is 1,599 meter long for men and 1,332 meters for ladies, both play to the par of 30, and has six par 3s and three par 4 holes. It is a very good course for starters as well as players who like playing short and accurate games.

The coast of Mallorca has about 18 golf courses and some more are under construction and most of them are situated in the south west part of the island, close to Palma, but there are some others are situated in the north as well as east.  There is one thing common with all of them and that is the incredible sunny and dry climate which allows the golfers to play golf all through the year. It is a wonderful treat for people who have been playing golf in the cold and wet parts of Europe. It is real luxury to play golf on a winter day in Mallorca.

Like most of the holiday resorts in Mallorca, Santa Ponsa is very well developed and is generally very active and busy. There is a vibrant nightlife and exceptional beach culture at Santa Ponsa which is the main beach area to enjoy.

Golf Decade

Most underrated player: Kenny Perry. If he had won the 2009 Masters like he could have (or maybe should have), Perry wouldn't be far from a Hall of Fame career. Because he works the ball only one direction and has a unique swing, he doesn't get enough credit for having more wins (14) than David Toms, Jim Furyk or Justin Leonard.

Someone Glad someone Sad in golf decade

Biggest shocker: No contest here. It was Tiger Woods falling from grace in stunning, messy, nasty tabloid-like fashion. It all began with a National Enquirer story that accused Tiger of flying a New York city hostess to Australia for a tryst. Then there was the suspicious early morning one-car accident just outside Tiger's Orlando home. Then we were then plunged into a weeks-long salacious scandal. Woods has dropped out of sight after announcing he was taking an "indefinite leave" from golf .
