After a woman gives birth, there are a lot of changes going on within her body. One of the areas affected by these changes is in the hair. A lot of women, not all, will have mild to fairly heavy hair loss. This is not something that the new mother should get alarmed about, as it is perfectly normal.
While a woman is pregnant, her estrogen levels become very high, and remain at that level for the duration. This actually prolongs the growing stage of her hair. Hair normally grows in stages, and after it grows a bit, it goes into a resting stage and soon after that it will fall out. Then the process starts over for each individual hair. This is how hair normally grows. After a woman gives birth and the estrogen levels return to normal, the hair will sense this and immediately go into a prolonged resting state to make up for lost time. In just a few days hair will start to fall out and it will keep falling out until the normal cycle catches up with itself.
Some women do not experience this issue at all, and some have rather severe hair loss. The hair loss can go on for months before returning to its normal state. Sometimes it takes up to a full year before everything is back to normal. Eventually it will return to the thickness that it was before giving birth.
The best thing to do about the situation is to not panic. Actually if a woman panics and creates a lot of heavy stress on herself, the situation may take much longer to reverse. Stress is one of the major causes of hair loss in women that haven't been pregnant, so she should keep her cool and realize that in time, things will be back to normal.
If a woman's hair was very thin prior to pregnancy, she may want to look for some homeopathic remedies that can help things along a bit. It certainly can't hurt.
