Things You Should Know About Baldness

Hair loss, more commonly known as baldness, has a variety of causes and treatments. Some causes are specific to a gender. Appearance can also be gender specific as well as treatments for baldness. But it should also be noted that baldness can simply be a product of the aging process.

Baldness can occur in women when they are pregnant. Using birth control pills can also cause hair loss. These reasons for baldness are because of the hormone changes that occur. Fluctuations in hormone levels can not only cause hair loss, but also excess growth of hair.

There are not gender specific causes for baldness in males. For a man to lose his hair, however, he must have testosterone. If he does not have testosterone, he will not become bald.

Baldness can occur in both men and women due to thyroid problems. A low thyroid level can cause hair loss and premature balding.

Acquiring a serious illness can trigger baldness along with having a high fever. Some medications can also cause baldness, such as chemotherapy. Under these situations, hair will grow back once recovery from the illness has happened or the medication has been stopped.

Extreme stress can cause the hair to fall out. Once the stress, whether emotional or physical, is resolved, the hair will grow back in time.

There are natural supplements available for both men and women for baldness. These supplements have little to no side effects. They are safer and far less expensive than prescription treatments. Herbs like Saw Palmetto and Pumpkin are used in these treatments. B complex vitamins as well as minerals such as zinc and magnesium will also be found in natural supplements for baldness.

Women who are experiencing hair loss should have their hormone levels checked. A hormone imbalance can be corrected with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. Especially in women who are in a stage of menopause. Doctors who specialize in bioidentical hormones are becoming easier to find.
