What is Dandruff?

Dandruff is a very common sclap problem. A morbid condition of the sclap is the emergene of dandruf which is caused by the excessive secretion of the sebaceous glands. Dandruf is infectious and personal articles like comb, towel, etc. of the patient should not be used by others.

Causes of Dandruff

Impairment of general health.
Development of a toxic condition mainly due to taking of wrong foods.
Constipation.
A low vitality due to infectious diseases.


Symptoms of Dandruff

Following are the  dandruff symptoms:

1. Falling of scales from the scalp
2. Itching
3. Red scalp due to infection

Treatment of Dandruf-

The aim of treatment is to reduce the level of the yeast pityrosporum ovale on the scalp. Dandruff responds well to the use of medicated, anti-fungal shampoos, especially those containing, in order of effectiveness:

* Selenium sulphide
* Zinc pyrithione
* Coal tar
* Ketoconazole

The shampoo should be massaged into the scalp and left on for 3-5 minutes before being thoroughly rinsed. The hair and scalp should be shampooed with this type of shampoo 1-2 times a week.

Dandruff should improve within 1-2 weeks of starting treatment, but will commonly recur if treatment is stopped.

Home Remedies for Dandruff

The use of a teaspoon of fresh lime juice for the last rinse, while washing the hair, is another useful remedy. This not only leaves the hair glowing but also removes stickiness and prevents dandruff.
Apply a paste of two egg whites mixed with fresh juice of one lime and leave for half an hour. Then wash the hair with neem soap. It control dandruff and give relief to itchy scalp.
Soak fenugreek (methi) seeds in yogurt overnight and apply the curd on your scalp for half an hour before washing in the morning.
The juice of snake gourd has been found beneficial in the prevention and treatment of dandruff. The juice should be rubbed over the scalp for this purpose.
Mix a spoonful of lemon juice with two spoonfuls of vinegar and massage on the scalp. Wash your hair with an egg shampoo after this.
Prepare a paste of fresh neem leaves (Azadirachta indica) and apply it to the scalp. It is very effective and proven natural remedy for dandruff.
Apply coconut oil on scalp. It is very common treatment for dandruff.

Natural Anti-Dandruff Massage:

* Massage your scalp with warm coconut or castor oil twice a week.
* Massage with the tips of your fingers in a circular movement for at least half an hour.
* Leave it on overnight and shampoo the following morning.
* This prevents the hair from becoming dry and moreover prevents dandruff and falling hair by improving the circulation and strengthening the hair roots.
