CDs are a useful medium for storing data. You can store music, documents, video and other such files on a compact disc, making it easy to back up your data in a couple of simple steps. Copying data from a CD to your computer is an easy task, as is copying data from your computer onto your CD.
- Copying CD Data
- Step 1
Insert the CD that contains the video data you want to copy into your computer's CD/DVD drive. Be sure to insert the CD right side up sothe computer can read it properly.
- Step 2
With the CD inserted in your drive, navigate to the "Computer" icon on your desktop. You can also access it in the Start menu by selecting "Start," and then locating the "Computer" (or "My Computer") on the right side of the Start menu. It is generally located under the "Documents" link.
- Step 3
Open the "Computer" window. Navigate to the area that is labeled "Devices with Removable Storage" and double-click on the drive labeled CD/DVD drive. This will take you to the contents of CD.
- Step 4
To copy the contents of the CD onto your computer, simply select all the folders and/or files you want, and drag them to your desktop. Your computer will automatically copy the files to your desktop.
- Step 5
If you have a CD burner and want to copy video files from your desktop onto a CD, repeat steps 1-3, using a blank CD. Drop and drag the contents you want to copy to the CD, and then select the "write files to CD" option that should appear in the left hand navigation area of the window. Then follow the steps in the CD Writing Wizard to complete the task.
