I work as a global marketing and communications manager for Ultra Electronics Manufacturing card systems. I'm French and have now been living in the UK for 10 years. I graduated in business communications from the University of Rennes in France and post-graduated in International Public Relations at the University of Hertforshire, UK. I very much enjoy the creative side of my job, and most of all, the writing bit.
ID card lamination is often associated with large government projects like driver's licenses or national ID cards, where cards are used for many years. In addition to this, lamination is now increasing in popularity for many types of ID card applications. So, what is it for?
Lamination works by applying, at high temperature, a thick plastic overlay to the ID card after it has been printed. Most laminators offer two thicknesses of lamination film, 0.6 mil and 1.0 mil. In addition, ‘thin' lamination films are also now available; these can provide holographic patterns for visual security, but are less suitable where card protection against wear is required.
Lamination has these benefits: ·
Increases card life to 10,000's of swipes, so it is good for high-use applications like airports or factories where cards may be swiped many times per day.
For applications where cards are removed from wallets or purses several times a day, lamination prevents card wear.
The lamination layer can include fine-detail holographic patterns, for the ultimate in card security. These holographic patterns can be standard (available off-the-shelf) but are more often customized to an organization's needs.
NEW LAMINATING PRINTER
The high-security Magicard Tango +L integrated ID card printer and laminator features a robust metal construction for long-term reliability.
Featuring both USB and Ethernet interfaces, and the ability to print and laminate single and double-sided cards, plus unique HoloKote watermark card security, the Tango +L is suitable for all applications.
Laminating films available include standard laminates, and also custom holographic laminates, which can be tailored precisely to suit an organizations design and security requirements. Both thick (0.6 mil and 1.0 mil) and thin holographic films are available.
