Xbox Overheating: How to Prevent it

There's nothing more frustrating. After hours of playing you've finally got past that tricky bit. It all looks like plain sailing from now on. Nothing can go wrong. Then, all of a sudden your Xbox 360 crashes. The screen goes dead and all your hard work has gone down the drain. You're left there wondering what on earth happened.

It's the bane of every serious gamer's life. The most likely cause of this is the hard drive overheating. It's easy to check whether this is the case. Feel around your console for any hot areas. If the Xbox itself is hot, then the problem is most likely with the hard drive. If you find that the power unit is too hot, then that's the location of your problem.

Why Does the Xbox 360 Overheat?

Xbox 360 overheating problems tend to occur after a long period of use. This shouldn't, in theory at least, occur. All Xbox consoles are fitted with their own fans. These act to cool the machine as it works. Unfortunately, these are often not sufficent to prevent overheating when the console has been in use for a significant amount of time.

Also, over time, the fans system can become less efficient and may even stop working all together. The problem of sub-standard fans can be particularly a problem in the cooling area of the Xbox gets dusty and dirty.

When this is the case, the fans become too clogged to function properly.

How Do You Fix the Xbox Overheating Problem?

The first thing to do is to clean your Xbox. There is a chance this will fix the problem. Or at least ease it a little.

If that doesn't solve the problem, your best option for fixing the problem is an intercooler. An intercooler is a rack of fans that act to keep the temperature of your console lower. They will automatically switch on the moment that your Xbox begins to heat up.

There are plenty of intercoolers that are specifically designed for the Xbox. These work fantastically well and will fix the problem for even the most hardcore of gamers.
