Portable Breathalyzer Takes Guesswork Out Of Drunk Driving

“Are you drunk?” How often do you casually get asked that question after a night out socializing and drinking? Considering all the factors that impact your blood alcohol content, it could be a difficult question to answer.

The amount of alcohol in your drink of choice, whether you ate prior or while drinking, and how much you weigh are all factors when determining whether you drank too much and are considered legally intoxicated.

Since alcohol can cloud a person’s judgment, there is a more accurate way to take the guesswork out of figuring out your blood alcohol content. A portable breathalyzer gives you an accurate BAC test determination on whether you are drunk and can prevent you from binge drinking, or driving drunk.

Having a personal breathalyzer is the socially responsible thing to do, especially since most of them cost under $200. There are many different types of handheld, portable breathalyzers, so it’s important to know what you’re buying in order to get an accurate breath test.

In general, portable breathalyzers are convenient and easy to operate. They are small enough to fit into a pocket, glove compartment, or purse. They operate on batteries and provide your blood alcohol content reading in just about 10 seconds. As with a police breathalyzer, you insert a mouth piece into your personal breathalyzer, put your mouth to it and blow air into the opening until the device stops beeping. Your BAC reading appears momentarily. It’s that’s simple to use.

The key component to any breathalyzer is accuracy. The alcohol detection sensor needs to be just as accurate as a police breathalyzer device. So invest in the best and only consider a personal breathalyzer that guarantees 99.99% BAC accuracy. There are very few on the market today that can claim such accuracy in a breath test. Look for handheld breathalyzers that have been certified as passing rigorous quality assurance tests, like the Australian Standard AS3547, which certifies only those products that meet strict requirements.

Readability is an important feature in a portable breathalyzer, especially since most drinking occurs at night and most drinking venues are dark. You want to be able to clearly see the BAC results in order to determine whether you are within the legal limit for blood alcohol content. Choose a handheld breathalyzer with a LED display that brightly displays your breath test results.

Not all personal breathalyzers are built the same. Quality is key, especially the sensor that is used to detect alcohol. It also should be well built so it can be used many times and still provide accurate readings. Look for a portable breathalyzer that is CE approved, FDA approved and DOT approved. These government agencies set strict all-around quality standards for design, accuracy and quality components.

There is one personal breathalyzer on the market today that actually operates in dual-mode, allowing it to be shared between multiple people to test for the presence of alcohol. This is particularly beneficial when drinking with a group of friends to determine who is capable of safe driving.

When you consider that a breathalyzer can prevent drunk driving accidents and control your social drinking, it’s a sensible investment to ensure safe driving. Responsible drinking is on everyone’s minds. Achieving it is worth the investment of a personal breathalyzer, especially when you consider it can save yours and other people’s lives.
