3 Safe And Easy Exercises For Your Teen To Do For Weight Loss

Does your teen gets bullied at school because of their weight? Are they out of breath from performing little tasks? Is your teen overweight or obese? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then you need to help your teen. Don’t despair; there is something you can do to help him (or her).

Studies have shown that a lack of physical activity is a contributing factor to adolescents being overweight. Lack of physical activity is not the only contributor to teens being overweight though, other contributors include DNA, overeating and eating junk foods, but for the purpose of this article we are going to look at physical activity as a contributor.

Let me ask you a question, do you as this child’s parent exercise? Are you also overweight? If you do not exercise, you are in a way encouraging your child’s bad exercise habits. Kids tend to copy what their parents do most of the time, so if they see you not exercising, then they really will not stop to find the benefits of something that their parent is not even doing. You can change this situation by participating in an activity that you and your child can enjoy. If you are in an exercise program, then encourage your teen to get involved in some type of exercise program, it could even be yours. This way you can encourage each other.

Below are 3 ways that are safe and easy, that your teen can do for weight loss:

1.  Your teen does not have to participate in a complicated or lifestyle altering exercise program. A simple walk with your teen would be a great bonding session, and if both of you are not in the mood for talking you can both have your mp3 players with you while you walk. Another alternative would be to find out what activities your teen is interested in pursuing. Finding out what your teen likes would be great because they would be looking forward to doing it.

2.  Another thing that you can try with your teen is bike riding. I remember how I used to love riding my bicycle and I bet your teen loves riding his bike. You can make it more fun by including the whole family to participate, and you can also invite other parents and their teens in the neighborhood to participate also. Not only will bike riding give you firmer legs and a tight butt, it will be great for weight loss.

3.  Swimming is also a great way to get into shape, and you can also do this with your teen. If you have a pool at your house, that would be great. But if you don’t you can try using a public pool. Or if you are a member of a clubhouse or if you have gym membership, then you can use the pools there.

It is important to come across as a loving caring parent when you are introducing an exercise program to your teen. If you come across as loving, caring and supportive, not as forceful and judgmental, they are more likely to want to get involved. Make sure that you explain the benefits of why it is important that exercise is included in their life.

Before you embark on any weight loss program, go and see your teen’s doctor first so that he can sign off the decision of participating in a weight loss program. He can also rule out any health problems that maybe be attributed to your teen being overweight.

You being the parent of this child makes you responsible for their wellness and health. Encouraging your teen to take care of himself or herself from an early age will educate your child about being healthy, and they are more likely to take those lessons into adulthood, which will benefit them for all their life. You can improve the quality of your child’s life with these simple tips.
