Air Make-Up by Industrial Air Handling Units

Canada Blower Co. makes industrial Make-Up Air Unitss for efficient ventilation and heating of large industrial facilities.

Makeup air is vitally important to the health and welfare of a building and its occupants. If the proper amount of makeup air is not introduced into a space, consequences can range from exterior doors that are hard to open or close, to buildups of carbon monoxide in the space, to fume hoods that don't actually control the contaminants they were intended to control. In addition, the outside air that is brought into a building to "make up" the amount of air that has been exhausted has a very significant impact on cooling and heating capacities.

Insufficient make-up air can lead to increased building infiltration and higher energy costs, not to mention unhappy building owners and uncomfortable occupants.

While there are no facts and figures to show how many buildings provide the correct amount of makeup air, it can be stated that there are probably a great many that do not have sufficient makeup air. And there's no one solution that is available for every building. Each building must be analyzed with a careful air balance calculation and evaluated based on the diversity of sources of exhaust air and infiltration.

The type of make up air equipment used, as well as its size, is usually dependent on the climate. Humid areas of the country require considerably larger-capacity units to dehumidify outdoor air. The supply air requirements for occupant comfort are generally air temperatures of 70 degrees to 75 degrees F with an rh of 50%. A good design criteria for air-handlung units engineers is to specify the unit performance at two operating conditions - a design day and an off-peak period such as a 70 degrees rainy day. The off-peak times of the year are actually more critical to evaluate the unit performance because this is the lion's share of the unit operation. Engineers also need to specify the maximum allowable supply air dew points.

Direct gas-fired equipment is the most efficient choice for makeup air. While indirect gas-fired equipment might have a nominal energy efficiency of 75% to 80%, a direct-fired unit will operate at a nominal 93%. Thus, the further north or more extreme the climate, the more valuable a direct-fired piece of equipment becomes.

It is also possible to experience condensation within the heat exchanger sections of indirect- fired units in very cold climates. If the heat exchanger is not properly pitched and drained and not constructed of stainless steel through all sections, then corrosion and premature failure can occur.

That's not to say that indirect gas-fired makeup air equipment doesn't have its place, but again, it comes down to the climate. Climates with high concentrations of combustible or potentially toxic elements in the air might not be suitable for direct-fired equipment as the air is directly exposed to the flame. Many applications allow the recirculation of some of the air from the space and return air that is laden with paint, solvents, or very fine powders would be better handled with an indirect gas-fired piece of equipment.

Warts

By: michaelrussell | 06/01/2010
Most of us have had one of these ghastly bumps at one point or another. Warts are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). Because they're brought on by a virus, they are contagious. That's why an initial wart can create a host of other ones. Common warts are the rough-looking lesions most often found on the hands and fingers. The much smaller, smoother flat wart can also be found on the hand but may show up on the face, too. Warts that occur on the soles of the feet are called plantar warts a

Seasonal Affective Disorder (Sad)

Few people look forward to the gray days and long, dreary nights of winter. In fact, most people feel better in the summer, when the days are longer, sunnier, and warmer. We get out more, exercise harder, and eat less. But for some people, the transition from summer to winter is much more than a slight disappointment. It is nothing short of a nightmare. For these individuals, the change in seasons signals a marked change in personality from happy and relaxed to depressed and tense. Getting out o

Air Curtains for Large Buildings Doors

By: Oleg Tchetchel | 17/09/2009 | Education
The idea of having an invisible barrier across the doorway to enable unimpeded access yet effectively prevent temperature flow, dust, odours and insects to cross, is appealing in itself but add to this the cost-saving in reducing energy use and the idea becomes more compelling, especially as air curtains are relatively inexpensive items. Appropriate for industrial applications Keeping warm air out of insulated cold stores or refrigerated facilities

Heavy Duty Industrial Process Air Curtains

By: Oleg Tchetchel | 14/09/2009 | Health
An air door or air curtain is a device used for separating two spaces from each other, usually at the exterior entrance. The most common configuration for air curtains is a downward-facing blower fan mounted over an opening. Normally this opening is an entrance to a building, and the air curtain is intended to help keep flying insects out by creating forceful turbulence. It also helps keep outside air out, avoiding cold drafts by mixing-in warm air from the air curtain.

Air Blowoff Systems for Industry

By: Oleg Tchetchel | 11/09/2009 | Business Ideas
Blower and fan units used in tank, blender, and conveyor tube drying can reduce drying time by an average of 50% compared with natural air drying. They are almost always a direct-drive design in order to minimize size and cost. However, an in-line electric heater must be added, and this ultimately raises both the cost and total power consumption. The final assembly still must be compact enough to mount on a portable cart to easily service multiple mixers, and this portability requirement limits

Air Curtains by Canadian Air Systems

By: Oleg Tchetchel | 10/09/2009 | Causes & Organizations
Air curtains are widely accepted across North America and Europe as a standard fitment in public buildings, retail stores and industrial applications such as coolers, freezers and cold storage facilities. Air curtains are generally associated with retaining heat energy in cold climates, and the energy savings are substantial.

Industrial Air Handling Units for Air Temperature Control

By: Oleg Tchetchel | 04/06/2009 | Kitchens
Direct Gas-Fired Heating Systems may be built in a number of configurations. They may be curb mounted as horizontal rooftop systems with down or horizontal discharge or in a vertical configuration for mounting on a pad outside of a building, with air ducted to the interior. They may also be located inside a building, suspended from hangers or mounted on support steel. Various manufacturers can supply any physical configuration required.
