No matter how much you clean your home, contaminants in the air remain. To help reduce and eliminate contaminants consider an air purifier. An air purifier is a device, which aims to free air from contaminants and odors. Various techniques are used to accomplish this, including filters, adsorbents like charcoal, and electrostatic charges. People who suffer from asthma, allergies, and other respiratory problems have the most to benefit.

Ionic air purifiers are the newest type of device for cleaning the air in your home or office. However, there has been some controversy surrounding the claims of certain companies involving ionic air purifiers. The controversy is partly due to the legitimacy of negative ion generators. In addition, the ozone generating properties of these machines are known to have negative side effects, as ozone is toxic. Other types of air purifiers are air purifiers with HEPA and Hega air filters. The Department of Energy has rigid requirements manufactures must pass to meet HEPA requirements. Consumers should be aware of products that say "HEPA-type." These have failed to meet HEPA requirements. There are many different air purifier models to choose from. There are some many types of air purifiers, and making an informed decision about which one to buy is not easy.

Here are a few things to consider when searching for an air purifier:

· Does it fit my needs? · Am I suffering due to allergies, asthma, or simply dust? · The size of the air purifier should be large enough to accommodate the square feet in the room and/or house. · The most expensive air purifier does not necessarily mean it is the best.

Air purifiers for the most part use filters. Buying the least expensive purifier does not necessarily mean it will be the least expensive to operate. The cost of filters and how many times you will need to replace them should be a part of your research. Buy the wrong model and you may be paying over $1000 just for replacement filters over the life of your air purifier.

Air purifiers can improve your quality of sleep and health. An air purifier removes impurities in the air, which can cause health problems. An air purifier can reduce pollen in your home's air if you suffer from hay fever or allergies. If you or someone you know smokes indoors getting an air purifier should be a priority for you. Many restaurants and other business, which allow smoking, use air purifiers to improve the air quality for their customers. You may not want to give up smoking inside, but you can definitely keep the air quality pure for you and others who are not smoking.

For those people that smoke cigars, an air purifier is almost a mandatory item to keep your home smelling fresh. Smoking cigars indoors can leave a smell that no one really likes especially other people living with you. Cigar smoke is a strong order that is hard to eliminate. Fortunately, if you invest in a more expensive air purifier you can eliminate any trace of cigar smoke smell from the room. A low-end air purification system is not going to eliminate cigar smoke from the air.

If you are considering purchasing an air purification system, be sure to do your research. An air purification system will improve your indoor air quality, and improve your overall health and sleep.

My 22 month old son seems to have some allergies ...
By: Colbysmom | 02-10-2008
My 22 month old son seems to have some allergies to pollen in the area of Granite Bay, California, near Roseville, about 30 minutes from Sacramento. I was wondering if anyone knew about pollens specific to this area? I was considering moving my son and me from this area to the area of Santa Rosa to relieve some of his allergies. He gets watery eyes, sneezes, and an itchy nose. How would I compare areas and the pollen in the air in each area? Please help. Thank you!!!

Coughing
By: denmim | 11-09-2008
My 12 year old son has had a nagging non stoppable cough for about a week now. I have given him every conceivable medicine out there, mucinex, claritin-d, benedryl, sudenefrin, delsym, homeopathic remedies, and nothing seems to squelch the cough. The cough comes with a stuffed nose and runny nose. He describes it as a tickle. By the end of the day his throat is raw and he is suppressing the coughs. Honey seemed to work for a bit, but the cough comes back stronger. If I take him to the pediatrician, and there's no fever, I get no other prescriptions for a stronger strength of anything (cough medicine, allergy meds, etc.) out there. I know you're supposed to let the body heal naturally, but I am at a loss. Any suggestions?
