When media started to get involved in this controversies regarding the anabolics steroids, they only revived this problem. This problem arose in the early 1990s and people who work out in gyms saw once again nothing true in the doctors statements. The example of athletes who used the same steroids years after years and who were stars among the weight lifters only brought them more confidence in the anabolics steroids. None of them died or got ill. The 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s were the years when the use of steroids became popular and was supported by those participants in the Olympic lifting competitions. However the media’s involvement only caused negative effects. Mainly because all these athletes, who later become movie stars, were presented like that: people who used important amounts of steroids for years, then retire and become a movie star. This credibility was lost, because media did not offer the athletes the full truth. The consequence was predictable: any statement made by media regarding this subject will not be believed by the average weight lifter.
Nevertheless doctors still state that the steroids use is unhealthy, against the law and its possession is, in most states, a felony. Though not a life threaten for most of the people who use them, they still remain unhealthy. A comparison was made between purchase steroid and purchase alcohol. Either can be consumed and can cause death, as sadly sometimes happen, while others have no bad reaction to it.
