Best Whitening Toothpaste - What Is It All About

As soon as I started to use teeth whitening products, I noticed the teeth color of each and every person around me. I also noticed that most people on T.V, have a great dazzling bright smile. What do they do? The business of selling the best whitening toothpaste is the most over-hyped and has the most visible marketing campaigns for a lot of companies. The meat of the selling pitches of these companies is that obtaining pearly whites is just a simple brush-gargle affair.

Teeth whitener toothpaste acts as an abrasive that removes surface stains from our teeth. There are some brands that also contain polishing ingredients or agents to enhance their surface stain removing effect. We are all too familiar with all the fancy and thought provoking terms used such as "microbeads" and "microcrystals" associated with known brands like Colgate, Aquafresh and Crest.

Unlike the professional tooth whitening systems that make bleaching agents such as hydrogen peroxide, whitener toothpaste relies on coarse ingredients for the abrasive effect on surface discolorations. These silica-based materials can have damaging effect on our teeth and can lead to tooth sensitivity and enamel wear.

On the other hand, tooth bleaching toothpaste can generally achieve a shade lighter in the color of your teeth. This pales miserably when compared to the result that one can obtain from in-office teeth whitening treatments. These in-office whitening treatments can give you at least 3 shades and up to 8 shades whiter teeth. But, whitening toothpastes help to maintain the oral care and the bleaching effect.

Most teeth whitening products that are sold over the counter contain hydrogen peroxide in concentrations that are lesser than those used in professional and in-office teeth bleaching procedures. Thus, we can expect minimal effects of these bleaching compounds found in tooth whitening toothpaste.

There is an ongoing debate over the efficacy of teeth whiteners and these whitening products are most often compared to fluoride toothpastes. In general, these teeth whiteners do not significantly differ from ordinary toothpastes as both work as an abrasive material for our teeth. What separates these tooth whiteners from the ordinary toothpastes is the concentration of the abrasive component.

Even the best teeth whiteners may not turn out to be the most effective tooth whitening option. However, these teeth whitening products can be the best option if you are concerned with surface stains. This type of teeth discoloration is generally the result of the accumulation of debris on the surface of our teeth and the use of teeth whitener toothpaste can already resolve the problem of teeth discoloration caused by surface staining. This superficial discoloration is commonly caused by excessive intake of coffee and cola as well as cigarette smoking. Teeth whitening toothpaste is also an ideal alternative to maintaining the lighter shade of our teeth especially after undergoing a professional whitening procedure.

Thus, in our consideration for the best whitening toothpastes, our decision must be based on the general intent of the teeth whitening procedure. Teeth whiteners and whitening toothpastes are the best options if you are concerned with maintenance and removal of surface stains caused by the accumulation of debris on the surface of our teeth.
