Build Muscle Through Visualization and Goal Setting

There are many factors to take into consideration when losing fat and building muscle, but have you ever stopped to think about the importance of visualization? Visualization can help you build muscle by focusing your concentration on each specific muscle group. By taking the time to focus and visualize your muscles responding and growing through your workout, you reduce the chance of losing motivation. Visualization can help you reach your goals and provides the map enabling you to reach them. Visualization can also be a form of goal setting but within the mind. Goals are a very important part to any successful workout routine because without a goal how can you accomplish the kind of body you dream of?

Before you begin any workout plan, begin to visualize your body and how you want it to look. It is a good idea to divide your body into segments or parts and create a visual technique that motivates you for each area. You should create a visual image for how you would like each part of your body to look when you have reached your goal. Additionally, find a visual technique that motivates you while you are working out. For some, the image of the finished result is enough, but others might find the best technique is to imagine they are a machine, tool, or even a powerful animal while they perform each rep. Since everyone is different, there is not one magical visual technique that works. The key is to find the technique that works best for you and use it. Visualization should be used throughout the day, before you workout, and during workouts as well.

Athletes commonly use visualization, and it is often the factor that enables someone to run an extra lap, perform a few extra crunches, or squeeze in one more rep. Michael Jordan before he became the best basketball player in the US would sit in his room and visualize shooting a basketball and making each time. The power of visualization is strong and it enables you to remain motivated throughout your workout, by letting you see in your mind's eye the finished goal. Staying focused on your goal will prevent you from giving up. Those who begin to practice visualization quickly notice a change in the intensity of their workouts.

As you continually visualize your new body, you might find that this technique helps ward off a few cravings as well. The more you practice visualization, the clearer the images you focus on will become. When you see that sugar frosted, glazed doughnut, you will not be at its mercy. Use your visualization and bring your mind immediately into focus and you will soon find that those temptations pass you by. You might find several techniques that work best, or just one. Visualization is a unique tool that is designed for and created by you. No one needs to know what your visualization techniques are, they are personal and a great method for remaining focused on your workout.
