Results were startling. It was found that mothers of lesbian population were at least five times more likely to have used synthetic thyroid medications during early pregnancy as compared to the mothers of heterosexual women, and eight times more likely to have used amphetamine-based weight loss pills. It was interesting to find that some drugs were found to reduce the chances of having homosexual orientation. For example, mothers of heterosexual males were supposed to take nausea treating drugs at pregnancy period.
All in all, research findings determined that prescription drugs taken during early pregnancy or during first three moths of pregnancy have substantial influence on baby's sexual orientation. According to Dr Glenn Wilson of the Institute of Psychiatry, London, these medications affect the brain chemistry and thus, determining the sexual orientation.
This research definitely warns us to be cautious about prescription drugs at sensitive stages like pregnancy as they are quite potential to cross placental barrier and reach fetus' brain. So, we need to be concerned not only about the life of fetus but also for the health and a good development of the same.
