A disease is an entity opposed to health, which effects cause a physiologically or morphologically alteration to your normal state. In General, disease is characterized by causes, symptoms, evolution and possibilities therapeutic. Although often misused, disease differs from injury (physical or mental lesion) disabilities (a deficiency which may also be due to an illness as an injury) and syndromes (a set of signs or symptoms that appear simultaneously). However, this article is to explain some factors that may result in the onset of disease:
Environment – environmental problems becomes a real health concern in developed countries. According to many researches, many environmental factors can contribute to the development of disease. Some of them include: toxic chemicals, acetaldehydes containing in cigarette, allergens (pollen, dust mites, moisture, cat hair, etc.), pollutants produced by human activities (sulfur oxides, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide / dioxide, volatile organic compounds, chlorofluorocarbons, radioactive pollutants, etc.) and infectious agents such as viruses, bacteria, etc.
Genetic - it may seem unfair, there are genetic medical conditions; the lifestyle of the victim has little or nothing to do with the development of the disease, although her/his lifestyle may worsen the symptoms. In General, those diseases are caused by one or more abnormalities on one or more chromosomes that are transmitted to the offspring, which lead to abnormal functioning of the cells of certain organs. Fortunately, genetic disorders are rare, affecting one person in several thousands.
Poor Nutrition - Nutritional deficiencies in developing countries is a major cause of disease. Due to financial crisis, most of inhabitants in developing countries can’t afford to buy their daily foods. However, this problem does also exist in rich countries. In the United States, although almost everyone have possibility to buy healthy foods, a percentage of the population suffer from nutritional deficiency due to either high consumption of fast foods or insufficient consumption of fruits and vegetables, source of many essential nutrients. According to recent studies, 10% of American population has a form of nutritional deficiency.
Social problems - pressure at work, financial problem or insufficient income, family issues, and other social impacts are factors leading to stress and depression, the source of physical, mental and spiritual illnesses. Those issues do not automatically cause disease, but if they are intense or persistent for some time, they can result in serious mental and physical problems. In left untreated, depression can lead to suicide, the third leading cause of death for young people aged 15-24 according to US Department of Health and Human Service.
Physical Inactivity – did you know healthy diet and medications alone cannot reverse heart disease and high cholesterol? You can eat all the good foods on earth and still develop heart attack if you do not exercise regularly. Some people ignore the power of an active life in the prevention of heart attack and many other medical conditions such as cancer, the scourge of our times. In the prevention of disease, nothing is more effective than regular physical exercise.
There are many other causes of disease which are not mentioned in this article. In fact, each disease has specific causes. For instance, cigarette smoke is the leading cause of lung cancer; chlamydia (a sexually transmitted disease caused by bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis) is the primary cause of sterility in women.
