Can a person be too old to benefit from Rhinoplasty surgery? With the advanced techniques used today along with the skill of your surgeon there is no upper limit on age for Rhinoplasty to be performed safely and effectively - as long as you are in reasonably good health.
Where will my surgeon perform my Rhinoplasty surgery? This depends on your insurance. Sometimes we can do this in our office surgical suite, but most times Dr Villano does Rhinoplasty surgery in one of the two local outpatient surgery centers.
What type of anesthesia will be used? Rhinoplasty can be performed under local or general anesthesia. This will depend upon the extent of your surgery and what you and your surgeon prefer.
How long does Rhinoplasty surgery take? Rhinoplasty usually takes from one to two hours. More complicated procedures will take longer.
What can I expect following my surgery? Your face will feel "puffy" for at least 24 hours. Your nose will ache and you may experience a dull headache. Any discomfort will be managed with pain medication prescribed by your surgeon. You will need to stay in bed with your head elevated for the first day (except for using the bathroom). Swelling and bruising around your eyes will get worse at first then slowly go away. Cold compresses help reduce this. This is usually gone within 2 weeks.
How should I prepare for Rhinoplasty surgery? We will give you specific guidelines concerning your diet and eating, drinking, smoking, taking certain vitamins and medications and washing your face. It is important that you follow these strictly.
How soon can I return to normal activities? Our patients are usually up within 2 days and most return to work within a week or so. It will take a few weeks to be completely back to normal. You will need to avoid strenuous activities for a few weeks until completely healed.
Will I be able to wear my glasses after my surgery? Contac lenses are no problem. We will instruct you concerning your glasses. They are usually taped to your forehead while wearing them to avoid resting them on the nose until it is completely healed. Well go over this with you and help you with this.
Will I look "funny" - attract attention or comments from family and friends? Healing is a gradual process so the final outcome will not be immediate. In the meantime there will be subtle swelling for a few weeks as improvement takes place. Some people may say they dont see any difference. Keep in mind your "reasons" for having your nose reshaped and that the final outcome is always worth it if your goals have been met.
