Hoodia is a genus of succulent plants in the family Apocynaceae that is widely used traditionally by the South African Bushman as an appetite suppressant. It is a succulent botanical which resembles a cactus-like plant that grows popularly in South Africa. Hoodia is being consumed as common food by the natives of the Kalahari desert for more than a thousand years.The active ingredient in Hoodia is the P57 appetite suppressant molecule that is responsible for the appetite suppressing effect that Hoodia is responsible for .So while the "magic" of Hoodia is new to us, it has been used in various parts of the world for hundreds of years.

The Hoodia plant has become world renowned for its effects as an appetite suppressant and weight loss supplement. Much recognition has been given to Hoodia Gordonii after television programs such as Oprah and 60 minutes featured Hoodia Gordonii for Weight Loss. Hoodia gordonii is no miracle weight loss pill, as health investigation reveals Like all dietary supplements, Hoodia is meant to be used with a sensible, low calorie diet and the proper amount of physical activity for it to be effective.
