House Plants: Natural Air Purifier

Did you know there are thousands of toxins and allergens floating around in the air? They are in both your home and workplace, just waiting to make your breathing more difficult and irritate conditions like asthma.

There are many expensive ways to clear the air with complex air filtration systems and purifiers.

Sometimes ridding the air of allergens can be as easy as opening a door or window to let air circulate. That can be difficult to do in offices where you don’t have access to windows, or in the middle of winter when opening a window would raise heating bills and put your coworkers at risk of getting sick.

But there’s a very simple, affordable and effective way to clear your air that you may not have thought of. All it takes are a few houseplants.

Houseplants are perfect air filters, because while people breathe in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide, plants ingest carbon dioxide and expel oxygen. So just having a plane in your home or office can totally refresh the air supply of a small room or office.

In addition to refreshing your air, houseplants can even rid the air of harmful chemicals. In fact, NASA did a study of air filtering plants in space – and many of the best air filtering plants are available at any local hardware store or nursery.

As we know, the air we breathe at home can be of lower quality and with more toxins that the air we breathe outdoors on a bad, smoggy day. It doesn't have to be this way with nature's air purifier.
