How to Choose the Best Drinking Water Purification System

Today, we have a variety of drinking water purification systems. Most are best suited for large treatment facilities, where the cleaning begins. Then, there is the portable drinking water purification system designed for home use, where it eventually ends up.

You strive every day of your life for a better tomorrow. As far as drinking water purification systems, the tomorrow is already here. Think about it, there are home drinking water purification systems that can remove chlorine, pesticides, herbicides and other contaminants, while leaving the minerals balanced and the taste fresh.

The treatment facilities are great, but they can only remove a portion of the contaminants that threaten our health. If you invest in an "end-use" drinking water purification system, you are taking care of the issues that evade the public utilities.

You see, the public drinking water purification systems were put in place to protect us from cholera, typhoid and other severe illnesses. They were never meant to deal with the chemical contaminants that we face, today. Some of those chemicals are actually a part of the public drinking water purification system.

What comes out of your faucets probably started out in a lake or a reservoir. There were tree trunks, branches, trash, dirt, mud and many other things in it. Your local company takes all of that out.

After the cleaning begins, chemical disinfectants must be used to kill bacteria. Chlorine is the most common chemical used for this purpose. It's necessary, but it's not really safe to drink.

Experts may not always agree on how much chlorine is safe to drink, but pool experts agree on how much is safe to swim in. The "safe" levels for drinking are higher than what is considered safe for swimming.

Chlorine, even though added for your protection from bacteria, can cause headaches. It has been linked with respiratory problems. Many people are allergic or sensitive to it. But, the scariest part is cancer.

The University of Wisconsin did a study which found that there was a link between cancer and chlorine. Home drinking water purification systems can help you eliminate the risk. Normally, they use activated carbon to remove chlorine and other chemicals, while improving the taste.

Public drinking water purification systems have the option of using additional steps to remove more contaminants. Technological advances have allowed them to remove radium and fluoride or add it. They can lower the acidic level so that it can safely travel through lead pipes. Lead content is a problem in some cities that necessitates the use of a "point of use" drinking water purification system.

The most technologically advanced home filters are the most affordable. Most are easy to install and unobtrusive. They can be installed in the kitchen, the bathroom, the shower or at the plumbing entry point for you entire house. So, that you never have to worry about possibly poisonous contaminants entering your home.

It has been said that our public drinking water purification systems are old, out-dated and ineffective. That may change as time goes by, but right now, we have to pick up the slack.
